CoAuth+ Product Overview

Enterprise-grade Microsoft Office co-authoring for IBM FileNet P8 — fully on-premise, fully auditable.

What is CoAuth+

CoAuth+ is an enterprise collaboration layer for IBM FileNet P8 and IBM Content Navigator. It enables Microsoft Office desktop co-authoring while preserving FileNet as the system of record.

Users work directly in their familiar Microsoft Word and PowerPoint desktop applications — no browser-based editors, no Office add-ins, no platform migration required.

No Additional Infrastructure Required

CoAuth+ works alongside your existing FileNet environment without requiring WOPI, Office Online Server, or SharePoint as a collaboration middle layer. IBM FileNet remains the direct, authoritative system of record — no complex bridging infrastructure needed.

The CoAuth+ plugin brings the "Edit in Word" context-menu action for co-authoring

Key Features

Designed for teams that need real-time collaboration without compromising security or infrastructure control.

Native Office Desktop Integration

Work directly in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. No browser-based editors and no Office add-ins required.

Simultaneous Editing

Multiple users can work on the same document simultaneously without traditional FileNet lock contention.

Save-Based Synchronization

Changes are synchronized through Microsoft's native Office collaboration technology with every save.

Full Auditability

Every save operation is recorded in FileNet under the user's own identity, creating a complete audit trail.

100% On-Premise

No Microsoft cloud services required. All documents, metadata, and traffic stay within your infrastructure.

Architecture Overview

CoAuth+ consists of three modular components that integrate seamlessly with your existing IBM FileNet infrastructure. All communication flows through secure HTTPS channels with no direct database exposure.

Enterprise-Grade Security

CoAuth+ is designed for regulated enterprise environments where every access must be authenticated, authorized, and audited.

Authentication

CoAuth+ offers multiple authentication paths to match your identity infrastructure:

  • Kerberos SSO (recommended) — Single sign-on via Windows Authentication with secure credential forwarding.
  • Token-Based Authentication — For environments without SSO, the ICN plugin uses a temporary, single-use ticket system. Some features (e.g., “Open File Location” from Office) are unavailable in this mode.
  • LDAP Integration — The CoAuth+ server connects to the same LDAP registry as your FileNet/ICN environment.
  • LTPA Trust — Uses the same LTPA keys as WebSphere Application Server so all operations execute under the end-user’s identity.

Authorization

All actions are executed using the end-user security context. Each operation is performed under the unique identity of the active user, ensuring full accountability and traceability.

Compliance

All documents remain inside customer-controlled infrastructure. Because every save is written to FileNet under the user’s own credentials, an automatic and complete audit trail is generated for every change.

System Requirements & Compatibility

CoAuth+ integrates with your existing infrastructure — no forklift upgrades required.

IBM

IBM Content Navigator 2.0.3+ and IBM FileNet P8 5.2.1+. Full compatibility with existing IBM ECM infrastructure. No platform migration required.

Microsoft Office

Office 2019+, Office LTSC, and Volume Licensing supported. No Microsoft 365 cloud subscription required — use your existing perpetual licenses.

Infrastructure

Open Liberty, Java 17, PostgreSQL. Container-ready with Docker deployment, easily portable to Red Hat OpenShift or other orchestration platforms.
